Jar Terrarium Care Sheet

  • Keep your jar terrarium in a location with bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight, which may overheat and burn plants when inside an enclosed jar.

  •

  • Closed and semi-enclosed jar terrariums naturally retain moisture, so watering should be done only as needed, and kept to a minimum.

  •

  • When plants look dry they will need watering. Use only distilled water in a spray bottle. Distilled water is good for plants sensitive to mineral content, and minimizes the opportunity for residues from hard water stains to collect inside the jar .Spray directly at the base of the plant, and avoid excessive water collection on the leaves. Mosses, however, can be sprayed over the entire surface

  •

  • Tropical plants enjoy a humid environment, but do not overwater your terrarium. Any excess water will drain through the ayers of mesh, and purifying filter media (Carbon charcoal and zeolite granules) beneath the soil and into the bottom gravel layer. Soil should remain moist without being soggy in standing water.

  •

  • If too much condensation is building on the walls of a closed terrarium, you can periodically remove the lid for ventilation, and allow some of the moisture to evaporate

  •

  • If mold spores compromise any plants or contents, simply prune or remove these items showing evidence of mold to prevent spreading. For extra precaution, you may also opt to follow up with application of grapefruit seed extract, which has anti fungal and antimicrobial properties. Dab a few drops onto a small paintbrush and apply to any any areas that had mold. Grapefruit seed extract may be purchased online, or at a nutritional supplement store or market

  •

  • Regular maintenance may also include pruning of excess growth Many tropical plants can grow from cuttings, so reuse and replant any cuttings you may desire.
